M. Night Shyamalan Ranked

I think we all know who M. Night Shyamalan is, and more importantly, we all know what he does. He has had quite a lengthy career in showbusiness, writing and directing his first movie, Praying with Anger, in 1992. But he didn’t really become a blip on anyone’s radar until 1999, when he made The Sixth Sense. Since then, he has released six more feature films, all of which he wrote and directed. With his eighth feature film, After Earth, being released today, I thought it might be about time to take a trip down memory lane to see the highs and lows of Shamalamadingdong’s career. So...here goes nothing...

Pen and Paper: Mouse Guard RPG

Alright! For my first article I thought I would tackle a couple nerd-doms at once. Mouse Guard is a glorious graphic novel by David Petersen. Please for the love of all that is nerdy check it out. It is my favorite graphic novel to date (not saying much). If you ever read or watched Red Wall in your lifetime the world of Mouse Guard is for you.

Discussion: Star Trek Into Darkness: Trekkie vs Casual Fan

So, as one of our first posts here on Non-Ram, Alex thought it would be cool to sit down with me and have a discussion about the new Star Trek film, Star Trek Into Darkness.

Just as a little background, I have only a passing familiarity with Star Trek. I mostly grew up on Star Wars and have only really seen the new JJ Abrams Trek films.  This is a whole new world that I am learning about as we go.

Alex, on the other hand, grew up with Star Trek, watching reruns of The Original Series (TOS) with his mom, and even watching some original runs of The Next Generation (TNG.) He told me how he remembers the first time he saw Wrath of Khan and how he fell in love with everything about it. He’s been a huge fan ever since, and will always love Star Trek.

Alex thought it would be fun to get the opinion of a Trek fan as well as a non-Trek fan to see exactly how Abrams' films work for both sets of viewers.  I agreed and below you will find some excerpts from our conversation. I hope you enjoy.

Epic Review

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a really big child. So it shouldn’t be a big surprise to hear that I get really excited when a good looking kid’s movie is coming up. Movies like Turbo and Monster’s University are some of my most anticipated movies of this year. So, you can imagine how excited I was for Epic. This looked like Lord of the Rings meets A Bug’s Life. And after all of the failures that Blue Sky Studios has had in the last few years (Ice Age 4, Rio, and Ice Age 3 were all pretty awful), they really needed to score a win here. While it wasn’t as good as the studios best (Ice Age and Horton Hears a Who), it was definitely a step in the right direction for the studio.

Furious 6 Review

Remember when that awesome movie about illegal car racing came out back in 2001? You know what movie I’m talking about! The one with Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. The one that made Vin Diesel famous (don’t you dare say it was Pitch Black, even though that movie is way better.) Yes, I think by now we all know what movie I’m talking about: The Fast and the Furious (not to be confused with Fast & Furious.) Then they decided to follow up this gem with the horrendous 2 Fast 2 Furious. And as if that wasn’t insulting enough, they went on to make four more movies. Needless to say, I was not excited for this film.

The Fast and the Furious franchise has always been a bit of a thorn in my side. I really enjoyed the first one because it was a new idea and made car racing actually fun (something that NASCAR has failed at for...ummm...FOREVER.) The second one tried to copy that, and failed...as did the third. But the fourth brought something back that the series has been missing (mainly Vin Diesel.) I was actually really excited to see where the franchise could go with someone as awesome as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson coming on for Fast Five. Sadly, that movie was a trainwreck, with some cool action, but an unforgivably heinous script.

Anime Boston 2013 Cosplay

Okay so I forgot to mention in my little blurb that I enjoy watching anime as well. This past weekend I went to Anime Boston which is, as you probably can guess, an anime convention! I have been to this convention for the past 3 or 4 years now and every year I find something even more fun and new in the world of anime. What I love about Anime Boston is that there is something for everyone. Even if you do not know a lot about anime, there are panels about the history of certain things in the anime culture, panels about video games, about cosplaying, about stage fighting, and just about anything else you can think of. If none of that is your scene you can always just walk around the artist’s alley and dealer’s room and see all of the cool merchandise and artsy things that people make by hand. Still if you aren’t that into artwork, then the costumes that people dress up in (and put the effort into making) are ALWAYS awesome to witness. This year I actually remembered to take some pictures of some of my favorite cosplayers, and thought it would be really fun and cool to share the pictures with other people too!

Introduction/background

Welcome to our little piece of the internets. Since we just threw this blog together recently, and I doubt many of our readers will know all of us, I thought it would be a good idea to give a little background about all of our lovely authors for the blog.

The idea for this blog is to be able to have all of us come here to talk about all the stuff we love: video games, movies, books, comics, TV shows, or any other random stuff that comes to our heads! I got a small group of some of my close friends together who thought that this could be a fun idea, so let's have a few introductions so everyone knows each other!
