Like many people, I absolutely loved Despicable Me when it came out back in 2010. So, just like most people, I was really excited to see the return of Gru, Agnes, Margo, Edith, and (of course) the minions. Everyone loved the first movie for its hilarious plot and phenomenal voice acting and with new additions, like the hilarious Kristen Wiig, Despicable Me 2 delivers a new, but oddly familiar kid’s movie that was almost as enjoyable as the first.
Just like Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2 tells the story of Gru (Steve Carell) and his three girls, Margo Edith and Agnes. This time around, Gru is working with the Anti Villain League’s Lucy (Kristen Wiig) to figure out who stole an entire top secret lab.
I really enjoyed how fun this movie was. It played a hell of a lot like an animated Mission: Impossible movie. Gru is now on the side of the good guys, which means he gets to take part in some super cool spy-ops and such good things. The story is cute, just like the last, and still really fun.
I think that everyone would agree that the first movie delivered heavily on two fronts: quality voice acting and the minions. And this time around is no different. Carell and Wiig play perfectly off of each other, and Benjamin Bratt made for an excellent villain. Add in some hilarious minions doing ridiculous things and you have a pretty solid film.

Unlike most movie sequels, Despicable Me 2 doesn’t try too hard to be it’s predecessor, but doesn’t forget why people loved the first. With a fun and adorable story, this movie is a perfect summer movie.
