Way back in 2010 (it really does feel like a long time ago), we were introduced to a hilarious rag tag team of Retired, Extremely Dangerous individuals. They provided us with a hilarious, action packed spy film that was 111 minutes of non-stop awesomeness. Now, three years later, the gang gets back together to stop another threat, but this time, things are a little...different.

Normally, this is where I would put a plot description, so you can decide if you like the sound of the movie for yourself. But let me save you the painful description of the plot and I’ll just jump into my rant about how bad this movie was, sound good with you?

There was so much to love from the first Red film. We had some of our favorite “60+” actors paired together in some excellent action sequences, throwing some witty lines back and forth. Sadly, none of that comes back for the sequel.

I have absolutely nothing good to say about this sequel. The acting is absolutely horrendous, the script is abysmal, and the filming style is absolutely cheesy. If this movie had been any worse, it probably would have been more enjoyable (if that makes any sense...), you know, so bad it’s good?

I think the biggest issue with this film is that the plot is way too complicated. When you are going for a lighthearted comedy mixed with some cool action, you don’t need a Mission:Impossible level plot. Yea, you can have some cool plot points, but don’t convolute it. They had so many characters going to so many locations that it all got really hard to keep track of. I didn’t even know where the hell the bomb was until after they got it. The script was just a hot mess.

Now, I know I don’t talk about scores much, but to me there are three types of scores: really superb ones (which I tend to mention on the rare occasion that I come across one), mediocre ones (that doesn’t stand out, but doesn’t detract from the film), and horrendous ones (that make the film even worse.) This score was horrid. Nothing ever fit the scene it was in, and it just made me want to punch the screen the whole time. And this was from a composer that I usually love, Alan Silvestri. So...ummm....WTF?!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Other than the first 15 minutes of this movie, there was nothing done right with this film. The acting was completely phoned in, the plot was absolutely ridiculous, and the dialogue was stiff as a board. With such an excellent and funny predecessor, Red 2 might go down as one of the biggest disappointments of 2013.
